The Bible in 90 Days - Day 12

Day 12 (Num. 21:8 – Num. 32:19) Vows

Numbers 30:1-2 (NKJV)

1 Then Moses spoke to the heads of the tribes concerning the children of Israel, saying, “This is the thing which the LORD has commanded: 2 If a man makes a vow to the LORD, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

As children of God, when we make an oath either to the Lord or to our neighbor, we are obligated to that word. How many times do we commit to joining that committee and then back out at the last moment. Do we not think this puts undue pressure on our fellow brethren?

What about the impromptu decision to do a favor for our neighbor. But then when called upon we have a lame excuse for not following through. Or perhaps we just don’t show up, thinking to one’s self I’m not really needed.

In the eyes of the Lord none of these excuses are valid. If you are a child living with a parent or a spouse living with your mate and that parent or spouse negates that vow then you may be released from that vow according to the Lord. But if neither the parent nor the spouse speaks against the vow then you are obligated to fulfill your pledge.

Remember it is better not to make a vow than to make one and not follow through thus breaking the Lord’s command.

Follow the Journey.
